Smooth Alder
A native tree to east Texas, the Smooth Alder thicket forming tree is found in open and sunny areas. It thrives is soil that is acid or at best neutral. It is a deciduous tree with leaves that alternate, simple and slightly rounded. It is a glutant for moisture preferring to grow at pond edges, streams and swamps. It loves the sun. Flower color blends from a yellow-brown to purplish. It is a small tree attaining heights of about 40 ft with approximate a 30 ft. width.
